Office of Assigned Counsel
Director: Letty Alvarez-Gubitosi
COVID-19 Virus Closure InformationDue to the recent cases of the COVID-19 virus, Skagit County Superior Court issued an Emergency Response to COVID-19 Outbreak Administrative Order. To best comply with this order, the front reception area of the Office of Assigned Counsel is closed to the public until April 24th. However, the glass window desk at the office remains open for business that must be conducted in person and the office remains available by phone. Phone interviews for screening of counsel are strongly preferred to limit visits to the courthouse and the office. The Office of Assigned
Counsel ensures a person's constitutional right to counsel in a court
proceeding, whether civil or criminal in form, when necessary to ensure
procedural fairness. Such a right exists in any proceeding which may result
in physical incarceration. The Office of Assigned Counsel performs eligibility screening for indigent defense services for Skagit County Superior and District Court.
